Network Velocity
CSX's network velocity has steadily increased since CSX implemented a new operational strategy in 2004. Currently our average train speed is 30.3 miles per hour.
Higher velocity provides more capacity and better asset utilization for shippers while providing the foundation for customers to pursue growth opportunities.
Train Enhancements
Since 2000, CSX has invested more than $1 billion to upgrade its locomotive fleet with new state-of-the-art engines that use less fuel and reduce emissions. CSX continues to invest in technology to make its fleet of more than 4,000 locomotives as efficient as possible. Efficient locomotives, pulling an average of 7 million carloads of freight annually on CSX, allow freight railroads to be the most environmentally friendly way to move goods over land.
